ABOUT THE PROJECT
The Metservice TV innovation (http://www.metservice.com/tv/) was ground-breaking in its visionary interface for the public.Metservice wanted to produce a series of six 3-minute weather report videos three times a week, to be uploaded to its website through a sophisticated CMS. Our brief from Metservice was to design an interface with player playlist and webhosting solution, but with strict security and complicated content management requirements. The project was far more than a simple hosting project.Slipstream used its existing account with Brightcove Video platform – in our view, the most sophisticated VOD hosting platform (TVNZ On Demand use this platform as does the NZ Herald). Interface development A high degree of player development (i.e. rewriting player code) was required to cover their brief: - Full categorised content management due to six different videos being produced up to three times a week. - Player Playlist providing dropdowns – easy interface for viewers. - Security – both player and hosting platform to be secure through protocols used.

Slipstream was present throughout the whole design and development process. Limitations that did exist to the brief were outlined, but largely we built what was briefed.

On time: The project was rolled out in two stages. The first stage had a very tight deadline of just prior to the 2012 Christmas Break for public access to the rolled out content. This was met successfully. To budget: Yes Within scope: Yes Quality: Tight quality control parameters were provided through all stages of the development. There were many internal departments involved in design and sign-off. These expectations were all met successfully. Meeting Service Level Agreements: Yes |
The Metservice TV product as we built it provides the New Zealand public with an easy-to-use interface of various video categories – and provides the MetService with the high levels of security they require. |
